About Mary
Hi,
I am a mental health social worker, psychotherapist, author, lecturer, and dream therapist who has been supporting individuals and families of the past twenty years. I have extensive experience is loss, grief, trauma, and parenting. I have worked with adolescents and adults in palliative care for the last ten years.
I have worked as lead Bereavement Counsellor at several Sydney hospitals; I was Senior Counsellor at Dementia Australia and I am currently supporting families of young adults. I worked with adolescents for ten years before that, who were experiencing anxiety, depression, and life challenges. I have run workshops on consent, parenting, and communication skills.
I have lectured for the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement and been employed as a lecturer at a number of Sydney universities, lecturing in counselling and mental health.
I am passionate about supporting people to grow and thrive through loss and/or change. I believe in the capacity for the human spirit to heal.
I am trained in a number of therapeutic interventions including CBT( Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT( Dialectic Behavioural Therapy) , IFS( Internal Family Systems ) , EMDR( Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) , ACT( Acceptance and Commitment Therapy , Poly Vagal Therapy, Mindfulness, and Dream therapy.
I have recently authored a book titled. Love listens: Parenting through Loss. (due to be released February 2024)

As an educator - I lectured in Social Work at Western Sydney University ( 1998-2003) and the Australian Catholic University (2003-2005).
I ran a series of workshops for parents in a series called Staying Connected with your Teenage Daughter (2011-2015). 2021 - Consent Workshop for Parents.
I have educated health professionals in loss, grief and bereavement at a number of Sydney hospitals including St George, Prince of Wales, Sutherland. I have also conducted workshops at St Vincent's, St Josephs and the Mater Hospital. I have provided training at Motor Neurone Disease Association, Settlement Services International and Long Bay Jail.
Love Listens
The name Love Listens arrived in my life one day ,via a dog, that came into my life with the name- Love Listens.
I came to see that listening to love was my work and life
listening with no judgments, to myself, my clients and my world.
